Rosehip Gin/Brandy???

Post by Sloe-ly Does It! » 30 Aug 2008, 00:02

Hello all,

I've been extremely bad and haven't visited the Sloe.Biz site since the beginning of Sept. last year - very naughty of me - still I've been supping the Sloe Gin and Damson Brandy during the interim! :D

I've been thinking about this for a while and was wondering what other peoples views are on this - Has anybody ever thought of collecting rosehips, pricking them like sloes and using them in their place to create Rosehip Gin etc...

Does anyone know if this would be feasible, or should I just give it a go and see what the outcome is?

Obviously you can use them to make rosehip syrup, so any thoughts, advice etc. on this would be much appreciated.

It's funny how the site traffic increases this time of year. :D I'm just as guilty.

As to you question, I've no idea either! better give it a try and report back.

Hi Frosty,

Apologies to you and anyone else reading this re. Rosehip Gin/Brandy, I suffered a shoulder injury last July, (2008), and have been out of action so to speak for quite a long while - Ho Hum!!!

In response to your post, due to this I unfortunately didn't get around to trying out the Gin / Brandy theory, however I did manage to find two or three foreign sites with some interesting info. re. Rosehips and alcohol combinations etc... on them, now that I'm back up and running so to speak I'm looking forward to trying them out and will get back to you all regarding the, (hopefully happy - hic! :D ), outcome. When I get a chance I'll also post their addresses - assuming they're still there.

In the mean time I've been supping some Damson Brandy that I made in 2007 - very enjoyable!!!

Take care all...

P.S. The sloes are looking good for this years harvest in the Essex area.

I have got some Rosehip Brandy on the go at the moment, from a recipe on a website that specialises in home-made liqueur recipes. (from memory, it's about 300g rosehips to a bottle of brandy, together with 150g sugar and the rind of a small lemon). The initial taste test has been very favourable, and this was using a bottle of Tesco's own "value" brandy!
