Please can somebody help - what are these?

What other fruit do you bottle? Exchange recipe ideas here (No sloes or damsons here please)

Please can somebody help - what are these?

My first post here and I'm sorry, but it's another what type of berry is this post. There is a tree growing just round the corner from me (in a public place) absolutely caked in these berries. I 'think' they may be damsons but I'm not sure hence the reason for asking.
They taste kind of sweet, similar to a plum but maybe a tad sharper.
Whatever they are they are ripe, they are so soft they are dropping off the tree and forming a purple squishy carpet

I'd be grateful of any assistance in identifying these.

Many Thanks.

Oh dear, the images have not worked. Sorry. :(

Edited to add: used another sharing site, I think they are OK now.

If they're sweet then I'd guess Damson or wild plum.
