Well, just picked 3 kilos of sloes in about 45 mins from a spot near Newbury that, in years gone by, has been very sparse, but is now absolutely bursting
I know that, in theory, this is a pretty early pick but the sloes are defo ready - large, soft and juicy with a nice bloom, and almost falling off the branches (a few of them are even starting to shrivel). In fact, one of the reasons we picked today is that we were worried that tonight's forecast gales (it's already getting pretty breezy) would strip the trees.
So, with a bit of luck, 4l of sloe gin and 2l of cinnamon sloe gin for next year...can't wait (so it's just as well we managed to get a miserable 1l from last years' disastrous crop)
