Fair point. But it's a cruel world: I can buy cheap gin here in southern Spain, but can't find sloes to add to it

Re: How long will Sloe's keep in the Freezer?

Hi Somnophore, Thanks for the swift reply (as ever) ... I have just bought a load of zip lock bags for putting my Sloes in the freezer  So I think I will make a few more batches and stock pile a good supply for later in the year/next year ! Cheers DC  Store your 'spare' sloes in ...

I know, I know, but if you've ever wondered why some commercial sloe gins are only about 26 percent ABV, here's the answer:
Plymouth Sloe Gin liqueur is made by gently steeping the finest sloes in Plymouth Gin and soft pure Dartmouth water.

Re: Fluff in developing sloe gin...?

This might just be innocent weeping of juices from the sloes - something most of us would not see if we were agitating the bottles occasionally, as recommended. I would not expect any fungal spores, or bloom to grow in 40 per cent gin... unless you have diluted with water. You haven't been adding wa...

Forum up-date

A routine upgrade to the latest version of the forum software ... has resulted in the sloe.biz logo and photos, at top of all pages, displaying badly! I'll get this corrected asap, but not before bit of a lie-down after all the small problems involved with the main upgrade! Lots of rain here in Spai...

Re: Yield

You'll get out more or less the same amount of liquid as you put in.

Turning half a litre of gin into sloe gin is magic enough for me ... but if anyone finds a way of doubling this then please let me know 8)

Re: Visiting American hoping to pick and bottle.

Dawn, probably best to PM Shinobi with your email address. The sloe.biz forum is 100% free of spam etc but best to be on the safe side! The Private Message (PM) button is to the right of all posts - so select the PM button to the right of Shinobi's last post to get in touch with her and exchange ema...

Re: Visiting American hoping to pick and bottle.

If I still lived in Cheltenham I'd offer to show you some Cotswold sloes ... but now I live in the south of Spain all I can offer you is olives! 8)

If anyone else can help Dawn there are still couple of days left before she departs for London.

Re: Dried or frozen sloe supply

What is the general opinion on frozen sloes & how long can they be kept frozen for before being unsuitable for use? Just wondering as I discovered I have an extra 2lb of sloes in the freezer from last year. In theory, as they are frozen they shouldn't really have deteriorated at all, should they? T...

Re: Plastic Demijohn's ????

I have a strong preference for glass myself - usually the original gin bottles themselves - but am sure other suitable (ie food quality) plastic containers are also perfectly OK. As for size, I find litre bottles very manageable. Sometimes I used 1.7 litre glass demijohns (ex cider) and decanted the...

Forum up-date hiccup, 27 June 2009

The forum was 'down' for a few hours today (27 June 2009) after I made a mess of upgrading the forum software! I believe the forum has now been fully restored to it's previous state ... and the upgrade will now take place some time later - after a bit more reading, and a little less sloe gin ... Tha...

Welcome to sloe.biz looby loo. The header pictures at the top of all sloe.biz pages shows the blossom on the left. The full montage photo shows blossom, then August sloes and then October sloes on bare branches. The flagon pic shows new sloe gin after only a few hours, and the next bottle shows the ...

Pacharan for Christmas ...

Now I live in the south of Spain I have no access to sloes ... and so have to get my 'sloe kicks' from Pacharan instead! Pacharan is made in the same way as sloe gin but with anis instead of gin. Most is made in the north of Spain where there must be plentiful supplies of sloes (or endrinas in Spani...
