Bombay London Dry Gin £15/litre - Tesco

As the subject says: 1l of Bombay London Dry Gin is on offer at Tesco at the moment for £15 (Original, not Bombay Sapphire). Pretty palatable for a gin and tonic as well. http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=287379354 http://img.tesco.com/Groceries/pi/144/5010677704144/IDShot_540x540.j...

Re: Sloe gin the Sipsmith way?

Just read the sipsmith notes and agree completely regarding no initial sugar, picking when ripe, freezing to break down cell walls and no need to prick the skins. All sensible advice.

Re: Sloe gin the Sipsmith way?

Best sloe gin I've made and the way I always make it now after trying various ratios and additions (coffee beans, cloves, almonds...) is just to keep it simple: fill an empty bottle with sloes, top up with gin and leave until Christmas then add a little sugar to taste if necessary. End result has al...

Re: Gin soaked sloes?

gave up on the idea of clafoutis after tasting the sloes and finding them quite dry and not especially tasty. tried dipping in chocolate and wasn't too impressed with that either. made sloejacks instead and am reasonably impressed with result. after reading the recipe elsewhere on the forums i decid...

Re: more sloe gin than gin?

The process taking place here, osmosis, involves the movement of water molecules from a solution with a high conentration of water to a solution with a lower conecntration of water. In this case the sloe juice will move from inside the berries, where it is more or less 100% water, and into the gin ...

Re: When to Pick Sloes?

just thought i'd post back about results of sloes i picked at the end of august/start of september; they were perfect, not bitter, no extra sugar added, my sloe gin tasted as good as ever. the only reason tradition says to wait for the first frosts is to make sure that the sloes are ripe. as with ev...

Re: Gin soaked sloes?

i used my left over sloes to make sloe rum and sloe brandy on the basis that since they already have a nice(ish - i used sainsbury's basic versions) taste they would be better with the reduced sloeiness than attempting to get a second lot of sloe gin from them. i am now planning to try a clafoutis u...

Re: New to Sloes - advice please

the sloes have come early this year - i'm in london and have picked 5lbs today. with barnsley being so much farther north however i think it's unlikely they were fully ripe - i used to live in liverpool and picked around the end september / start of october (although a south facing location with lot...

Re: When to Pick Sloes?

the sloes appear to be ripe early this year as i have picked around 5lb (2.25ish kg) today from wormwood scrubs park in london. possibly to do with having so much sun early in the summer.

Blackberry Vodka & Champagne

Made some blackberry vodka with the bumper crop of blackberries from the back garden. Can't remember precisely but think basic recipe was to fill a large necked 750 ml bottle with blackberries, add 100g or so of sugar and top up with cheap vodka. Tastes lovely on its own but goes fantastically with ...

blackberry vodka

picked around 4.5 kilos of blackberries from the enormously overgrown brambles in the garden this year and decided to give blackberry vodka a go. used a variation of my dad's sloe gin recipe (fill bottle with sloes, add 2lbs sugar and top up with gin) but halved the amount of sugar. also, since i'd ...
