Re: Sloe Map - Add Your Own

Not local, unless we have some German readers. My eyes were on stalks at the sight of branches laden with fruit. Any other time, I would have had no qualms with picking them and making up a batch in the hotel later. But these were located in the memorial park in the grounds of the Topography of Terr...

Re: Not looking like a good harvest this year

I had a look at The Wilderness at the weekend - must have been looking in totally the wrong place as all I found was brambles & blackcurrents. I was wandering round the football pitches, but never had a chance to look over the other side of the park when I got a call to be somewhere else. I bet that...

Re: Gin Bargains - Any around?

It was £12 for 70cl but stll a good shout with that alcohol content, but not a bottle left my the two local stores. :(

Must have been a good drink already without our enhancements.

Re: Gin Bargains - Any around?

42%? Lovely. Thanks RubyTuesday.

I'll make a detour tomorrow.

Now just have to find some sloes. Or at worst, buy some on ebay - even thought it's not the same as picking your own.

Thanks.

Re: Not looking like a good harvest this year

I can see the pictures after logging into Google+, but I couldn't tell you if they are ready yet. It does seem really early compared with the picking reports of previous years though.

Stopper/grolsch style bottles

Aldi are knocking out 1 litre bottles in various colours next week. They look ok on screen, but what they look like in real life is another thing....

Re: Sloes in London

I'm not good in north and west London and I seem to get lost almost every time I leave the A40. I will give the Wilderness a go come the autumn though. I've been given a couple more pointers for Essex - Dock Road on the way out of Tilbury just after the Asda roundabout and Wharf Road at Mucking. Not...

Re: Almond Extract...HELP?!

Have you considered rebottling to get rid of the film? I definately wouldn't ditch it before giving it a chance - my normal sloe gin smelt vile for the first 3 months. But if it's still too almondy after however long you were intending to leave the fruit in, tone it down by mixing with some of your ...

A big thank you

To all posters, past and present.

I'm enjoying my first taste of sloe gin. If it hadn't been for all the advice on here, I would have probably binned the lot ages ago with my impatience.

Pear recipes please

I'm almost ready to decant my sloe gin and have started thinking about what to try next. I've book marked a few soft fruit recipes to make when they are in season, but at the moment, I quite fancy trying my hand at a pear concoction. Does anyone have any pear gin or vodka recipes, or even just a sug...

Re: Sloes in London

I've resigned myself to the long haul on my first batch - have already decided to leave the fruit in another 3 months and then start tweaking the sugar. I did like Hurst Road for picking, well apart from the muppets who were continually tooting me and another forrager when we were nowhere near stepp...

Re: Violets

This is my first year of this so if it turns out I don't like sloe gin, I can dump, I mean, gift it next year. I've book marked a few other drinkies to try and make next year.

Re: Violets

Thanks for that Somnopore. I think I'll use half the contents and make a couple of small bottles up to give as presents - especially as it sounds more special than my not even close to being ready sloe gin which I had down for sticking fillers.
