Re: Sloe gin advice needed.

Adding sugar at the beginning helps draw sweetness and flavour from the sloes in a way that including it some months later just can't compare. You can try adding a wine glass of sugar to your bottles though, to improve sweetness - more or less, to taste. What I find MUCH more interesting about your ...

Re: Bullace Gin

I personally believe that this Sipsmith statement is completely wrong: "Saturating the spirit with sugar prevents it from extracting the natural fruit sugars – and other flavours – from the sloes" The beauty of the sloe.biz forum is, of course, that better scientific minds than mine can join the deb...

Re: Bullace Gin

Here are two posts about the merits of only adding sugar later - not a good idea in my own opinion. http://www.sloe.biz/pip/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=274&p=1200&hilit=osmosis#p1200 http://www.sloe.biz/pip/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=264&p=1119&hilit=osmosis#p1119 Search for OSMOSIS for many more related results :)

Re: NEED HELP!! too much sugar

Don´t panic, this sounds quite easy to fix! 1) Pour all the syrupy gin into a large container, - but leave the sloes in the bottles. 2) Top-up the large container with an equal amount of fresh gin. 3) Finally, re-fill your bottles again (which already contain your sloes). 4) Of course you will need ...

NEW MEMBERS - an apology...

I have run into a site admin problem... and am unable to approve new members for a while! Very sorry, but this is a phpBB issue too big for my comparatively low-tech brain. Apologies to all who may be awaiting approval during September and October - coincidentally the busiest season for sloe gin! I ...

Sorry for 'breaking' the site and forum for a couple of hours today - during routine maintenance!

This is the busiest time of year for sloe gin enquiries, so I hope nobody was inconvenienced too much, and that you'll keep coming back to enjoy the forum!

New Advertising on site...

Google Adsense ads have been added to the sloe.biz site (last week) and the forum today; and I hope regular visitors don't find them too intrusive! Unfortunately I inadvertantly crashed part of the forum while implementing the ad code - so sincere apology from me for the lost 3 hours today! As this ...

The main sloe.biz website, http://www.sloe.biz , has been completely redesigned, and is now a fully up-to-date Joomla CMS site. I don't know why I took so long! As before, the site stresses the simplicit of making sloe gin, but encourages everyone to visit the Forum for the best advice from the best...

Re: A big thank you

That's what the Forum is here for

For the last six years I've been surrounded by olive trees (and haven't seen a single sloe!) so would also like to thank all the great posters here who make sloe.biz such a great resource! Gracias.
